A fellow named Thomas Frank wrote a book last year titled "What's the Matter with Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America."
His thesis – like that of the rest of the Democratic Party – was that, since it is obvious that ordinary people (farmers, factory workers, small businessmen and the like) should vote for Democrats, there is some sort of deception involved when enormous majorities of Kansans vote for Republicans.
