No Apology Necessary - Just Don't Ever Say Anything Again

Can't they wait, you know, like, a couple of days? On top of the borderline-racist coverage of Hurricane Katrina's aftermath, we can now add THIS:
"Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city," stated Repent America director Michael Marcavage. "From ‘Girls Gone Wild’ to ‘Southern Decadence’, New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. May it never be the same," he continued.
Absolutely inexcusable. Press release from "Repent America" HERE.

Amateurs should be careful about trying to figure out whose sins prompt adversity as the meting out of divine justice. (See John 9:1-3.) It turns out that the relevant sinners here were NOT the Mardi Gras revellers but rather George Bush and Haley Barbour. At least that's what RFK Jr. says. See:

Notwithstanding the impossibility of explaining disasters by reference to other people's sins, it is quite true that disasters should prompt US to repent. We have that on good authority:

"There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

(Luke 13:1-5.)

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" comes to mind here.

Besides, if sinful conduct is to be discussed here, various potential sins of omission of society at large, rather than those of commission in New Orleans, might be much more relevant. Those who would choose to view it as God's wrath should be pretty careful in their gloating.

Indeed, it strikes me much like deciding that lepers are sinful because they are lepers, which is not a Christain attitude.
