Today is World AIDS Day - and, believe it or not, the New York
Times has a very good editorial entitled "The State of AIDS." It is a sobering, if not somewhat glossy, look at the worst year AIDS has had yet:
AIDS is outrunning us. The annual report of the United Nations' AIDS agency, released last week to mark World AIDS Day today, informs us that this year there will be 5 million new infections, a record, and more than 3.1 million deaths, another record.
Think about doing something. You could consider donating to one the many
worthy institutions fighting the epidemic. But at least
give the editorial a look. We promise we won't tell anyone you read the
Times.
