Take the Pledge!

Glib & Superficial wishes officially to announce that all of us here have sworn that we will not marry Angelina Jolie until "everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able."

We thus add our names to a growing list that includes Jeremy Lott and Brad Pitt.

Nationally renowned marriage expert Warren Jeffs has so far refused to take the pledge, but has also not ruled it out. We are more optimistic about signing up matrimonial innovator Sharon Tendler.

Take the pledge.

Oh oh, you may be in trouble then.

Actually, everyone in the country is legally able to marry. All you have to be is of sufficient age to marry (which is frightenly low).

Now, while everyone is free to marry, it is true that you are not free to marry anyone or anything you might want. You women have to marry men, and you men have to marry women, but everyone is free to do that.

Now, it might further be argued that this means you are not free to marry the one you love, but then there's no requirement that you have to be in love to get married, now is there? It helps, to be sure, but then at the same time, love/lust/wanton loonacy can mean you can be married to one, and lust after another.

So, rejoice! Brad may now run out and marry Angelena, while the two of them go on to desire to be with another preson/thing/concept whatever. And now that being married while lusting after another man/woman/both/cow/sheep/object is not allowed to be criminalized, everyone can comply with the law and debauch to their hearts depraved content.

I don't remember being asked about this. Did I miss the memo?
